Statement of the Syrian Democratic Alliance on the Majdal Shams Crime
On July 27, 2024, civilians in the occupied Syrian town of Majdal Shams were subjected to a brutal rocket attack that targeted a football field where children and families had gathered. This treacherous attack claimed the lives of 12 civilians and injured around 30 others, some seriously. Evidence indicates that the rocket was launched from areas controlled by the terrorist Lebanese Hezbollah militia, adding yet another crime to its horrific record of killing Syrians and violating their rights and lives.
The Syrian Democratic Alliance strongly condemns this deliberate targeting of civilians, regardless of the perpetrator or the alleged reasons. Attacks against innocent people cannot be justified under any political or military pretext,
especially when they are carried out with foreign agendas that have nothing to do with Syria’s national interest and under false pretenses such as “resisting Israeli occupation.” Such escalatory actions only increase tension in the region and place innocent civilians in the crossfire of regional conflicts.
The Syrian Democratic Alliance calls on the international community to take responsibility for protecting Syrian civilians and to take the necessary measures to ensure their safety wherever they are.
The Alliance emphasizes that a political solution in Syria, along with the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and all related international resolutions, is the only way to end the suffering of the Syrian people.
Ending all foreign occupations of Syrian land, particularly the withdrawal of Hezbollah’s terrorist forces, is crucial for achieving stability and peace in Syria and the region.
Mercy and peace to the souls of the Majdal Shams martyrs, and to the souls of all the martyrs of freedom and dignity in Syria.
