Syrian Democratic Alliance Statement on the Vehicle Attack in Magdeburg, Germany
The Syrian Democratic Alliance issued a statement strongly condemning the terrorist vehicle attack that targeted a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, on December 20, 2024. The attack resulted in the tragic loss of five lives and left around 200 others injured, some critically.
In its statement, the Alliance expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and the injured, wishing a swift recovery for those affected. The statement firmly rejected all forms of terrorism targeting innocent civilians and emphasized the need to respond to such acts through the rule of law and by fostering national unity.
The Alliance noted that the attacker is believed to have been influenced by far-right, anti-Islamic ideologies and was reportedly linked to the far-right “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) party. Nonetheless, the statement called for reinforcing the values of justice and shared responsibility, urging society to resist the hatred that extremists aim to spread.
The Alliance also expressed solidarity with the local community in Magdeburg and praised the efforts of German authorities in addressing the aftermath of the attack and supporting the victims. It emphasized that such tragedies underscore the importance of greater cooperation between diverse communities to uphold values of coexistence and peace.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the Alliance’s confidence in the resilience of the German people to overcome this tragedy, strengthen national unity, and stand firm against all forms of extremism and terrorism.
