The Syrian Democratic Alliance Calls for International Action to Stop Aerial Bombardments on Aleppo and Idlib
Amid ongoing military escalation in Aleppo, Idlib, and rural Hama, the Syrian Democratic Alliance issued a statement condemning the indiscriminate aerial bombardments targeting civilians and infrastructure in these areas. The Alliance held the Syrian regime accountable for the escalation and emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive political solution led by Syrians themselves.
The statement highlighted that the recent military operations result from the Syrian regime’s intransigence and refusal to engage in political solutions, alongside the international community’s inability to make tangible progress in the Constitutional Committee’s process or open new avenues to resolve the Syrian crisis.
The Alliance further noted that the continued brutal bombardment of residential areas and healthcare facilities in Idlib, Aleppo, and other cities reveals the regime’s blatant disregard for international humanitarian law, calling for urgent international intervention to protect civilians and halt the attacks.
Calls for Civilian Protection and Return of the Displaced
In its statement, the Alliance urged influential states to ensure civilian safety and protect infrastructure, while facilitating the voluntary return of displaced residents to areas from which the regime has been expelled. It also emphasized the need to prevent the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and its allied militias from re-establishing control over these regions.
Efforts Toward Civil Administration
The Alliance reaffirmed its coordination with its cadres in Aleppo to establish civilian administration in areas liberated from regime control. It stressed the importance of relocating military forces outside towns and cities to avoid further destruction and to support the restoration of normal life for residents.
The Need for a Humanitarian Corridor
The statement underscored the necessity of opening an urgent humanitarian corridor to deliver aid to affected populations in Aleppo, Idlib, and other war-torn areas.
Condolences to the Victims and a Call for Syrian Freedom
The Alliance concluded its statement by offering condolences to the families of civilian victims and reaffirming its commitment to striving for Syria’s freedom and the well-being of its people. It reiterated the importance of adhering to international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolutions 2254 and 2118, as the foundation for resolving the Syrian conflict.
